Route 94 traffic shift tonight as the Bridge over Paulins Kill replacement project advances in Blairstown

Alternating traffic necessary as construction advances

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a traffic shift on the Route 94 Bridge over Paulins Kill Tributary with an alternating traffic pattern as the bridge replacement project advances in Blairstown, Warren County.

Beginning at 11 p.m., tonight, Friday, September 27, NJDOT’s Contractor, Ritacco Construction Inc., will close the southbound lane of the Route 94 Bridge over Paulins Kill Tributary to set up a traffic shift for the next stage of construction. One lane of alternating traffic will be maintained overnight.

By 6 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, September 28, traffic will be shifted onto the newly-reconstructed northbound side of the bridge to allow for demolition and reconstruction of the bridge and superstructure on the southbound side. An alternating traffic pattern will be established using temporary traffic signals. Construction on the southbound side of the bridge is expected to be complete by spring of 2020.

Trucks more than 10 feet wide will be prohibited on Route 94 at CR 521 in Blairstown for the duration of the project.Trucks taking I-80 Exit 4/Route 94 northbound to local destinations south of CR521 will be permitted.

Route 94 northbound from I-80 westbound truck detour:

• Trucks wanting to travel Route 94 northbound from I-80 westbound will be directed to take Exit 25/Route 206 northbound
• Take Route 206 North to Newton
• Turn left on Spring Street
• Turn left on High Street and stay right to Route 94 Southbound

Route 94 northbound from I-80 eastbound truck detour:

• Trucks wanting to travel Route 94 northbound from I-80 eastbound will be directed to continue on I-80 past Exit 4/Route 94 northbound to Exit 25/Route 206 northbound
• Take Route 206 North to Newton
• Turn left on Spring Street
• Turn left on High Street and stay right to Route 94 Southbound

Route 94 southbound truck detour:
(Trucks taking I-80 Exit 4/Route 94 southbound to local destinations south of CR521 will be permitted.)

• Trucks on Route 94 southbound will be directed to take Route 206 South in Newtown
• Take Route 206 South to I-80 westbound
• Take Exit 4/Route 94 north

The $3.7 million federally-funded Route 94 Bridge over Paulins Kill Tributary project will replace the bridge deck and superstructure, which are in poor condition, as well as make substructure modifications to accommodate the improvements. The Paulins Kill Bridge, which is approximately 161 feet long, consists of three spans that were built in 1931.

Variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the bridge project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before any upcoming road closures.
