Atlantic City Convention Hall, commonly called Boardwalk Hall, is a National Historic Landmark. The Convention Hall is a tribute to the talents of the designers, Lockwood-Greene & Co. When built, it contained the largest room with an unobstructed view in the history of architecture. The engineering triumph was celebrated on its 50th anniversary by receiving the Civil Engineering Landmark designation of the American Society of Civil Engineers. During World War II, between 1942 & 1945, Boardwalk Hall was named as the Army Air Corps Technical Training Command Center. In 1964, the Democratic National Convention was held here. At this convention, the Mississippi Freedom Caucus was in attendance and Fannie Lou Hamer delivered her impassioned defense of why the Caucus should be seated on live TV in the Hall’s ballroom. The Hall was also the venue for the Miss America Pageant and houses the world’s largest organ.
The 2024 Trust grant will help fund the restoration of 10-ground-level storefront windows on the Boardwalk-facing side.
