Educator Evaluation

The Teacher Effectiveness and Accountability for the Children of New Jersey (TEACHNJ) Act was established with the goal of raising student achievement by improving instruction through the adoption of evaluations that:

  • Provide specific feedback to educators
  • Identify areas for growth
  • Guide professional development
  • Inform personnel decisions

The New Jersey Department of Education believes that educators want to be engaged in ongoing discussions about what is working in their practices and what is not. A high-quality educator evaluation system provides the opportunity for a dialogue that meaningfully supports and develops practice.

Evaluation Information System (EIS)

The Evaluation Information System (EIS) allows district leaders to submit and certify evaluation data through NJDOE Homeroom rather than through NJ SMART, the EIS and the Annual AchieveNJ survey.

The EIS allows for:

  • Submission of initial evaluation score data
  • Submission of the Annual Evaluation Survey
  • Incorporation of median Student Growth Percentile (mSGP) scores into summative ratings
  • Support of district review of local records and calculations
  • Improvement of overall state data accuracy

The certification process:

  • Provides districts a final opportunity to ensure that all evaluation ratings assigned to educators are accurate.
  • Ensures all educator evaluation information is provided in a standardized format to comply with state and federal requirements, and that future policy decisions at the state level are based on real evidence.
