Appointments, fact-finding hearings, and e-adjudication
You may be required to participate in mandatory scheduled appointments.
These may be done over the phone, online via a secure form linked from an email we send, or in person.
If you miss an in-person or phone appointment or don't complete an online form, your benefits may be delayed or denied.
If you applied for benefits by phone and we do not have an email address on file for you, your claims examiner appointment will be conducted by phone.
The claims examiner will call you at the scheduled time. While every attempt will be made to call you on schedule, delays can occur. You must be available for two hours after the time scheduled.
The reason for the interview will be listed on the form you receive for the appointment. Please be prepared to discuss the reason for the interview. If the reason for the appointment is related to your employment, your employer will be notified of the interview and has the right to participate.
You may represent yourself or you may be represented at your own expense by an attorney or a non-attorney. If you are unable to keep the scheduled appointment or if you need more time to prepare for the interview, you may request a postponement by calling a Reemployment Call Center. You may request that your employer produce any documents which relate to your eligibility for benefits. You may request that statements be taken from your witnesses who have firsthand knowledge of the case. You or your representative will have the opportunity to question your own witness, present documents and provide a closing statement or summary. If the reason for the appointment is related to your employment, any questions that you may have for your former employer may be asked of the agency representative who in turn may, at his/her discretion, pose the questions to your former employer.
If you have any evidence that supports your claim, you may mail or fax the documents to the office shown on your scheduling notice. Make sure you include your Social Security number on all documents.
Important: While you are waiting for your claims examiner interview, you must continue to claim your weekly unemployment benefits. You will receive "credit" for the weeks which you claim so that if your benefits are approved, you can be paid these weeks at a later date. If you do not claim your weekly benefits, you may lose them even if the claims examiner determines you are eligible for benefits.
If you are denied benefits, we will send a written determination explaining why. You have the right to appeal the determination, which also contains a notice of your appeal rights. If you are approved, benefits will be issued for the weeks which you have claimed.
If there is any question about the amount of Unemployment Insurance benefits you are entitled to receive, you will need to have a phone interbiew with a monetary representative. The representative will call you at the scheduled time. While every attempt will be made to call you on time, delays can occur. You must be available for two hours after the scheduled time.
At the time of the interview, please have available proof of employment (pay stubs, W-2 forms, etc.) for the last 18 months prior to filing your Unemployment Insurance claim. If applicable, we will also send your former employer(s) a request for wage and separation information to complete and return to us.
After the monetary interview, we will mail you a determination explaining the amount of benefits (if any) you are entitled to receive. You should carefully review the information contained in your determination. If you disagree with the determination, you have the right to appeal. Instructions for filing an appeal are on your determination.
You may be selected to participate in a mandatory program of reemployment services. Some of the services include testing and assessments, job counseling, job search workshops, job clubs, and direct job placements. You will receive an appointment notice with the date, time, and location of the appointment.
