"I had the pleasure of meeting Paul Aronsohn on September 29, 2018, where he was a guest speaker at a disability forum in Morris County, just 5 months into his appointment as Ombudsman. After the event, Paul took the time to listen to the many struggles our family was facing for our 2 disabled children, including a potential 50% cut of private duty nursing hours for our medically complex daughter by her Managed Care Organization (MCO). It was Paul's compassion and lived experience that brought him to our home just 9 days later, to participate in our daughter's clinical reassessment by the MCO. I was truly amazed and grateful that he showed up ... in person ... to help us advocate for our daughter's nursing hours to remain in place, which we succeeded in. Since then, Paul has dedicated himself to working tirelessly on behalf of families like ours on the many issues, crises and tragedies affecting people with disabilities. Our tragedy, is the untimely and preventable death of our son in 2023 while being transported home on his school bus. It was Paul's ongoing friendship and partnership over the last 2+ years, that has resulted in several pieces of legislation to improve the safety of special education students' transportation, which we are hopeful will be signed into law. Paul has approached his position as Ombudsman the way us parents have approached our children's care ... we eat, sleep and breathe their vast and complex needs ... a deeply personal labor of love. Paul has been fearless and relentless in his advocacy for our family and all families across the state over the last 7 1/2 years. We are eternally grateful for Paul's service and all in his office who are dedicated to providing resources and support to the ever-growing challenges of our disabled loved ones and their families."
