"The Office of the Ombudsman for Individuals with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities and Their Families is the most important resource there is for the direct stakeholders it serves. The Office interacts with a variety of DD system components, such as the DDD itself, service providers, support coordinators, and advocacy groups, as well as other governmental bodies such as the legislature-all with the goal of helping individuals with disabilities and their families obtain the services they need and deserve. With this bigger-picture vantage point, the staff possess a level of sensitivity, expertise, and cogency that cannot be found elsewhere. Because of its charge, the Office often handles the most complex and difficult cases, where someone's life and livelihood is at stake. My own family was in such peril in 2019, when I learned of the Office of the Ombudsman for Individuals with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities and Their Families. Paul Aronsohn was able to facilitate the attainment of an emergency stabilization bed for my son, which ultimately saved his life. I will forever be grateful for this Office, and to the State of New Jersey, for making it happen."
