Report Abuse

If someone is in danger or needs immediate medical or police help, call 911.

Reporting Abuse, Neglect, Exploitation

To report a concern of abuse, neglect, or exploitation happening to a person with developmental disabilities, age 18 or older:

Call the DDD Abuse Hotline at 1-800-832-9173 (then press 1).

You can report a concern without giving your name. You do not need to be related to the person you have a concern about to call the DDD Abuse Hotline.

To request an Office of Investigations (OI) Investigation Report, visit the Office of Program Integrity and Accountability's (OPIA) Office of Investigations webpage.

Note: Employees and volunteers of the New Jersey Department of Human Services and any facility or program licensed, contracted, or regulated by the Department are required to report allegations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of any person with an intellectual or developmental disability. Agency protocols for reporting must be followed.

If You Were Abused, Tell Someone

  • Tell someone you trust (like a friend, a person in your family, someone you live or work with, or your boss). Keep telling someone until you get the help you need. 
  • Tell your support coordinator.
  • Tell someone at DDD.
  • Call 1-800-832-9173, then press 1. This is the DDD Abuse Hotline and you can call any time day or night.
