TRENTON, NJ – Governor Murphy, Lieutenant Governor Way, and the New Jersey Puerto Rico Commission today extended their sincere condolences to the families and loved ones impacted by the collapse of the rooftop of a prominent nightclub in the Dominican Republic.
In the early hours of Tuesday, April 8, 2025, the roof of Santo Domingo’s Jet Set nightclub – the oldest running nightclub in the country – collapsed during a live concert. The collapse killed over 220 people and injured over 200 individuals.
“Tammy and I are devastated by the roof collapse at Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, which claimed the lives of over 200 people,” said Governor Phil Murphy. “New Jersey is home to a large and vibrant Dominican community and I know this tragedy hits home for many of our residents. “Our Administration is monitoring this developing situation closely, and we stand in solidarity with the Dominican community on the island and Stateside, as they navigate this tragic loss of life,” said Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way, who oversees the Puerto Rico Commission in her capacity as Secretary of State.
“We pray for our brothers and sisters from the Dominican Republic and many brothers and sisters that live in Puerto Rico descending from and part of Dominican families,” expressed New Jersey Puerto Rico Commission Chairwoman Peggy Anastos. “We are praying for you all.”
