Official Site of The State of New JerseyThe New Jersey Faith Action Center (FAC) was established by the New Jersey Department of State as a bold reimagining of how state government partners with faith communities. Formerly known as the Office of Faith-Based Initiatives, the FAC was ceremonially renamed and strategically repurposed under the administration of Governor Mikie Sherrill and Lieutenant Governor Dale Caldwell — signaling a fundamental shift from passive engagement to coordinated, measurable action.
The transformation reflects a simple but powerful truth: faith-based institutions are not just places of worship — they are among the most trusted, effective, and responsive community institutions in New Jersey. They feed the hungry, shelter the vulnerable, mentor youth, and hold neighborhoods together. The FAC was created to stand alongside them.
The Faith Action Center is the central faith-community engagement and capacity-building hub of the New Jersey Department of State.
Modeled after the Department's nationally recognized Business Action Center (BAC), the FAC operates as a hands-on action center — not a traditional advisory office. We are the State's direct partner for faith-based organizations, serving as:
To strengthen New Jersey communities by supporting faith-based organizations as vital service and civic partners — removing barriers, building capacity, and connecting the resources of state, local, nonprofit, and philanthropic partners to the institutions closest to the people.
The Faith Action Center operates with deep respect for religious freedom and constitutional boundaries. We serve faith communities of every tradition, background, and size across all regions of New Jersey — because strong communities are built when government and trusted institutions work together.
This is faith engagement not as symbolism — but as action, partnership, and measurable community impact.
