2021 New Jersey Ballot Bowl

ALL IN NJ Campus Voting Challenge

The ALL IN NJ Campus Voting Challenge (which is a separate program from the NJ Ballot Bowl) is a nonpartisan competition among higher education institutions in New Jersey with a commitment to increasing student voter participation and engagement on campuses across the state.

There will be three award categories for both 4-year institutions and 2-year institutions, awarded based on student voter participation in the November 2022 election using data from the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE) a signature initiative of the Institute for Democracy & Higher Education at Tufts University. The New Jersey Department of State will announce awards for highest campus voter turnout, most improved campus voter turnout, and highest student voter registration rate.

The New Jersey Department of State is helping to facilitate this voting challenge in collaboration with the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, a national nonpartisan nonprofit that supports more than 930 campuses to institutionalize nonpartisan democratic engagement. Participation in the ALL IN NJ Campus Voting Challenge will automatically include participation in the national ALL IN program and awards competition. The New Jersey Ballot Bowl will take place every year and the ALL IN NJ Campus Voting Challenge award ceremony will occur every odd year in conjunction with the Ballot Bowl celebration for that year.

Institutions that opt into the ALL IN NJ Campus Voting Challenge will be provided guidance and tools to create an action plan for increasing student engagement on their campus. There is no sign-up cost to participate.

Pledge to Vote

Voter registration is an initial step in the voting process, but not the only step. In this year’s Ballot Bowl competition we are rewarding teams that get the most commitments to vote. This isn’t about a specific candidate, but about the value of participating in our democracy and committing to showing up for your community.

Pledge to vote in this year’s General Election by going to this link provided by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge and score some points for your school’s Ballot Bowl team: allintovote.org/take-the-pledge/
